Looking forward to 2019
Is it 2019 already? 2018 has shot by in flurry of exciting events and changes at Krispies. Of the many things that happened our highlights were winning the Marketing Innovation Award at the National Fish & Chip Awards in London in January, raising £10,000 for Exmouth RNLI at our Fish & Chip Ball in September and of course reopening our shop after a three week refit and refurbishment in November. So now we have a brand new shop and a brand new year and we cannot wait to get going into 2019 and make it our best year ever.
We are starting our new year with a new, healthier, menu option. We know from the feedback you guys give us that, as much as you all love Krispies wonderful battered fish, you would also like to be able to have the option for your fish to be grilled. So, the great news is that in 2019 you can now Go Grilled! Our fabulous MSC Certified Cod and Haddock are now available grilled as a regular menu item, wonderful if you still want a fabulous fish take away but also want to watch the calories. Throughout the year we will also be featuring grilled menu specials which will include other varieties of fish as well as vegetarian options like Halloumi. Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for information on these.
In 2017 and again in 2018 we were honored to win awards at the National Fish & Chip Awards, the fish & Chip ‘Oscars’, which are held annually in London. This year we are lucky enough to have been nominated for two awards – Staff Training and Development and the ‘big one’ Best Fish & Chip Shop 2019. The latter award is probably the most prestigious award you can win in our industry, equivalent to winning Best Film Oscar. From all the entrants from around the UK the judges have whittled it down to 10 shops. Each of us have to go to London and give a presentation to a panel of judges. The winners are then announced at the Awards Ceremony the following day. Tim and I have already been working hard on our presentation and are nervous and excited about the outcome. We would love to win of course but whatever happens you can be sure we will continue to do what we do best and make sure you guys can enjoy the very best fish & chips we have to offer every single time you visit our shop.
And that is just January! There are other things we have planned of course. Our sponsorship of the Exe Estuary Beach Cleans continues. Now in its third year, volunteer numbers have more than doubled since we got involved and the more people who come, the more rubbish we are able to collect so we hope to keep the numbers growing in 2019 and beyond. Information for dates and how to book up will be on our website and social media pages when they are confirmed.
Another local focus for us will be supporting Rachel Pattison, Headteacher at Marpool School, Exmouth, who is looking to raise £750,000 to create a facility at the school which will ‘bridge the gap’ between mainstream education and special schools. Over the course of 2019 we will be raising money to support this innovative, local project that is aimed at helping kids from all backgrounds who fall between the gap of mainstream education and special schools. You can read more about this unique project here.
So, as you can see, we already have quite a hectic schedule planned, there is bound to be more so keep an eye on our website and social media pages to be sure you don’t miss out on anything.
We would like to wish you all a very happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in our shop in the near future.
Kelly Barnes, January 2019
