Apprenticeships come to Krispies

We strongly believe at Krispies that a job here is not just a job in a fast food restaurant but can, if you want it to be, the start of a very long and successful career in catering. Recently we have been delighted to reinforce this belief by partnering with Exeter College to be able to offer our staff the opportunity to work with us as apprentices if they choose to do so.

An apprenticeship is essentially a job with qualifications. As an apprentice you not only work for Krispies you also get a college education which means you will gain both a recognised qualification and essential relevant skills whilst working and earning a wage.

We have always been focused on allowing our employees to flourish whilst at Krispies and as we go from strength to strength as a business it became increasingly important to offer careers that the brightest young people would find exciting and challenging. Megan has been working with us for three year’s but she is only 17. She loves her job and felt that going to college to do her A Levels wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of working at Krispies. As an intelligent, ambitious and hardworking member of our team we were keen to help her not only remain at Krispies but to also gain a meaningful qualification whilst she was doing it. To find a solution we approached Exeter College about potential apprenticeships and we were delighted with their response.

Exeter College were equally delighted for the opportunity to work with us. Luke Moss, Training and Recruit Advisor said “Exeter College is always looking to support local businesses and enhance the learning of their employees. Krispies are a fantastic, award winning employer and we understand the direction Kelly and Tim want to take with enhancing the learning and development of their incredibly hardworking and friendly staff.”

An apprenticeship was not something Megan had considered when she was doing her GCSEs but she says the arrangement is perfect for her. “I choose to become an apprentice because I loved my job at Krispies, the fact that I get to do the job I love whilst learning about business and management is something I am really excited about doing. I want to stress to people that the apprenticeship is equal to doing A-Levels and isn’t of lesser importance. For me it’s a win, win situation, I get to do the job I love whilst being paid a proper living wage and educating myself for my future career.” Megans course is Level 3 Leadership and Management ending in a CMI qualification.

We believe an apprenticeship is the perfect balance for people who want to be qualified but also want to have a hands-on ‘education’ and we are flattered that Luke thinks that we can really enhance an apprentices education. “Krispies is a great example of a small local employer who understands their staff and recognises celebrating hard work and success. In particular, Krispies offer an insight into what life is like for a very successful business in the hospitality industry, thriving at every turn.” And it seems it is not just our direct employees of Krispies who benefit from this partnership as Luke went on to add. “Krispies apprentices bring enthusiasm, great ideas and passion into college life that is enjoyed and shared by fellow students and staff alike.”

We are so pleased to be able to offer 16-24 year olds this new opportunity to do an apprenticeship with us because we want the younger generation to know that they can find a job they enjoy whilst still gaining qualifications. It is extremely exciting to know we can contribute towards getting a successful career and qualification for our team to give them the very best start in a catering career.
