Meet the krispies Crew
Kelly Barnes (but also answers to Mrs Krispie)
What is your job title?
Proprietor of the Krispies – Award Winning Fish and Chips
What does that mean?
My main job is to do staff working rotas, staff management, health and safety and general paperwork. When I get the chance I like to go back to serving and meeting our customers.
Where are you from?
Burton-on-Trent. I met husband Tim at Sandy Bay, it was a holiday romance and the rest is history.
What did you do before you worked for Krispies?
I used to work in a fish and chip shop with Tim in Exeter and then we decided we wanted to buy our own shop. I was 17 at the time – what was I thinking??
When did you start working for Krispies?
We opened Krispies as it is today in December 2000
What is the best thing about your job?
My staff and my customers. I love my team who are hard working, dedicated and do everything with a smile and I like nothing better than serving and meeting our customers as it is them that make us who we are.
What does winning From Field to Frier mean to you?
Fabulous and fantastic, it is the most memorable moment in our career so far. We just didn’t expect it, we were up against such strong opposition and just being nominated was enough for us. I am so pleased for the whole team who work so hard day in day out to make sure we produce the very best quality food and it is great to have that hard work recognised.
What’s your favourite thing on Krispies menu?
Sausage and Chips – I know that sounds like sacrilege but when I was a kid I would go with my parents to see my grandparents and on the way we would go the the Fish and Chip shop. I would always choose sausage and chips. We would then eat them on our laps, in front of the telly watching Only Fools and Horses. So, it’s all about nostalgia and memories of a time when life seemed much simpler.
Are you Battered, Traditional or Mixed
Traditional (but I like a sneaky battered chip and of course someone HAS to taste test them).
Who are your favourite sports team or band?
What is your favourite thing to do with a lazy, sunny afternoon?
Sitting in the garden, having a BBQ with friends and family drinking prosecco
What makes Krispies different from other take aways?
We care about the food we serve, where it comes from, how we cook it and how we serve it. Quality has always been our priority and creating amazing Fish and Chips is our passion.
